Please join me for my Art Show Reception & enter the fantastical world inhabited by Rocket my 21 year old Cow-Cat & Harley the lovable Chihuahua side-kick.

Si es Flashback Friday! Volvamos a Relive Vive El cine 2018 el último día.
Vamos a hablar MVFF. El último día del festival fue increíble. Tuvimos un rato maravilloso. Si no eres miembro de MVFF, deberías considerar seriamente lo que te estás perdiendo. Si te gustan las películas y las celebridades y directores de reuniones, esta es la membresía a tener.
Comenzamos nuestro día con un maravilloso brunch de MVFF. Los chefs preparados prepararon omelettes para nosotros con ingredientes frescos, así como también muffins y ensalada de frutas y un maravilloso café. Había mucho para comer y disfrutar, era muy agradable estar afuera en la mañana disfrutando del almuerzo con directores, actores y personas de la industria cinematográfica, así como miembros de MVFF y buenas personas que aman la película; Sin mencionar que la gente maravillosa de MVFF, que organizó este festival una vez al año, también disfrutó del clima en ese brunch matutino especial de cierre.
¡Qué manera de celebrar el último día del 41º Festival Anual de Cine de Viva el Cine y Mill Valley; Comience el día con un brunch preparado por el chef antes de ir a experimentar el último día de las películas de MVFF.
Así que nos fuimos hablando y disfrutando de la compañía de nuevos amigos para ver la película Colisiones. Collisions fue una película maravillosa sobre el impacto devastador de la draconiana política de inmigración de los Estados Unidos. Y el elenco y director Richard Levien estuvo allí para hablar con nosotros. Qué gusto fue, tanto la película como las preguntas y respuestas.
Después de eso, tuvimos la oportunidad de experimentar la película de la noche de clausura, que era “Si Beal street pudiera hablar, la película más esperada de este año con el ganador del premio de la academia, Barry Jenkins. Se trata de una mujer de 19 años en los años 70 que lucha para liberar a su inocente esposo de la cárcel. La película fue seguida por una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con el director Barry Jenkins. Déjame decirte que la capacidad del teatro estaba llena. Fue un evento para no perderse. La energía en el aire después de la película fue impresionante.
Después de la película tuvimos que experimentar la fiesta de la noche de clausura, así que nos fuimos en la camioneta de transporte justo afuera del teatro al San Rafael Elks Lodge y que experiencia fue esa. Cuando estábamos llegando a las puertas de lo que parece una mansión, había damas tocando a lo largo del camino tocando vestidos con luces. Caminamos por la larga entrada VIP de la alfombra roja con las luces del techo brillando y nos recibieron con una copa de champán burbujeante. Qué experiencia para revivir. No podía creer lo maravillosa que es la música cubana en vivo. Hubo empresas de catering que sirvieron platos maravillosos y vino a una multitud de personas que celebraban otro maravilloso festival de Vive el Cine y el 41º Festival de Cine de Mill Valley. Todo lo que puedo decir es que si te perdiste este año, no te pierdas el 42.o festival anual MVFF del año que viene. Hasta la próxima! Que tengas un maravilloso fin de semana amigos tacolistas.

Lets talk MVFF. The last day of the festival was amazing. We had a wonderful time. If you are not a MVFF member, you should seriously look at what you are missing. If you like movies and meeting celebrities and directors, this is the membership to have.
We started our day with a wonderful MVFF brunch. Catered chefs prepared omelets for us with fresh ingredients and as well as muffins and fruit salad and wonderful coffee. There were so much to eat and enjoy , it was so nice being outside in the morning enjoying brunch with directors and actors and people in the film industry as well as MVFF members and just good people who love the movies; not to mention the wonderful people at MVFF, who put together this once a year festival, were their also enjoying the weather on that special closing day morning brunch.
What a way to celebrate the final day of the 41st Annual Viva el Cine and Mill Valley Film Festival; starting the day with a chef prepared brunch before you go to experience the last day of MVFF movies.So off we went talking and enjoying the company of new friends to see the movie Collisions. Collisions was a wonderful movie about the devastating impact of the draconian US immigration policy. And the cast and director Richard Levien was there to speak to us. What a treat that was, both the movie and the Q&A.After that, we got to experience the closing night film which was “If Beal street could Talk, this year’s most anticipated film with academy award winner Barry Jenkins. It’s about a 19 year old woman in the 70’s who fights to free her innocent husband from jail. The movie was followed by a Q&A with director Barry Jenkins. Let me tell you the theater capacity was full. It was an event to not be missed. The energy in the air after the movie was impressive.
Following the movie we had to experience the closing night party, so off we went in the shuttle van right outside the theater to the San Rafael Elks Lodge and what an experience that was. As we were arriving at the gates of what looks like a mansion, there was performing ladies along side the road performing in lighted led dresses. We walk up the long VIP red carpet entrance with overhead lights shining and we were welcomed with a glass of bubbly Champaign. What an experience to relive. I couldn’t believe how wonderful the live Cuban music. There was catering companies throughout serving wonderful dishes and wine flowing to a sold out crowd of people celebrating another wonderful Vive el Cine and 41st annual Mill Valley Film Festival. All I can say is if you missed this year, don’t miss next year’s 42nd annual MVFF festival. Till next time! Have a wonderful weekend Tacolist amigos.

THE 2016 GRAND PARADE WILL BE HELD ON MAY 29th AT 9:30 AM
On May 29th at 9:30am the Grand Parade kicks–off at the corner of 24th and Bryant Streets. Watch a brilliant procession of contingents, most of which will feature beautifully adorned floats depicting rich multicultural themes and featuring performers who engage and entertain the crowds. Brazilian-style “escola” samba schools with up to 300 members dance through the streets in fantastic feathered headdresses or sweeping Bahia skirts, while Caribbean contingents perform the music and dance of the Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Trinidad. Other parade groups include Mexican Aztec performers, traditional African drummers, Polynesian dancers, Japanese drummers, giant puppets and folkloric groups representing Guatemala, Honduras and Bolivia.

Helping establish the nation’s best-known organization of farm workers and directing the first national boycott of California table grapes are just a few of civil rights leader Dolores Huerta’s many feats.
But of all the roles the legendary organizer has filled, it’s her upcoming role in San Francisco’s Carnaval celebration that she considers noteworthy.
Organizers of the parade found it fitting to invite the union-organizing heroine to do what she does best - lead. Huerta’s service will come in the form of waves and smiles on May 29 when she’ll lead the Carnaval parade as its grand marshal.
“I consider it a very prestigious role,” said Huerta. “I feel honored to be even asked. I think it’s fabulous.”
Among her many accolades, Huerta was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in 2012 by President Barack Obama.
Huerta’s ties to San Francisco’s historic Mission District trace back to her beginnings as an advocate for the working class farm communities throughout California.
Huerta said many of the neighborhood’s activists supported the United Farm Workers movement in the early 1960’s by gathering food and transporting supplies by caravan to Delano where the organization was being birthed at that time by founder and organizing giant, Cesar Chavez.
Today, Huerta sees many similarities in the battle she fought years ago on behalf of farm workers and and the one that’s been brewing in San Francisco in the last decade. The most daunting issue for Huerta is the pushout of working class families from their neighborhoods due to gentrification and economic displacement.
The fact that people don’t have places to live...the housing is so bad and it’s not affordable,” she said.
Huerta’s spirit is symbolic of the Mission District and its people, making her the perfect choice to lead the Carnaval parade during this crucial time, said Carnaval San Francisco’s Executive Producer Roberto Hernandez.
“Dolores Huerta’s fighting spirit serves as an inspiration to all of us struggling for the survival of our barrio,” Hernandez said. “She’s both forceful and nurturing -- a mother figure to our community. Dolores spoke out decades ago about the dangers of toxic pesticides to field workers and to our food supply. Her advocacy for farm workers and the environment is in keeping with our 2016 theme, Viva La Madre Tierra - Long Live Mother Earth. She is a remarkable advocate for environmental issues, social justice, women’s rights, and our Latino community as a whole.”
